podl helps you organise, download and listen to podcasts across your devices. This policy explains what information podl uses and why.
Information We Collect
podl may collect and store:
- Account identifiers, including your podl user ID and identifiers for linked devices.
- Your podcast subscriptions, playlists, queue, download records, favourites, folders and Podmarks.
- Listening progress, playback position, played/unplayed state, listening history and listening-statistics events.
- App settings that need to work across devices, including child-mode settings, per-podcast settings and playback preferences such as playback speed and Smart Trim.
- Technical and device information needed to operate the service, which can include a device identifier, device name or label, model, platform, operating-system version, app version, sync status and Garmin model or part number.
- For Podl Plus notifications, an Apple Push Notification service (APNs) device token, device platform, development or production environment and your notification preferences.
- Email address if you choose to add one for account recovery, sign-in or product updates.
Automatic Account and Device Registration
When you first launch podl, the app automatically creates an anonymous podl account and registers the device so that core app, backup and synchronisation features can work. You do not need to provide an email address to create this account. If you later add an email address, it can be used for account access or recovery and for communications you have permitted.
If you do not have Podl Plus, podl may make a lightweight periodic device check-in when you open the app, normally no more than once every 28 days. This reports basic account, device, operating-system and app-version information so we can maintain account access, measure supported app versions and operate the service. It does not upload your podcast library, playlists, playback progress or listening history.
How We Use Information
We use this information to:
- Provide your podcast library, playback, organisation and personalisation features.
- Synchronise the information listed above between iPhone, iPad, Apple Watch, Garmin and other linked podl devices.
- Pair, authenticate and manage Garmin watches and other linked devices.
- Improve reliability, diagnose sync/download issues and maintain the service.
- Provide account recovery or sign-in where you have added an email address.
- Send notifications you have enabled, including new-episode notifications available with Podl Plus.
- Send occasional podl product updates where you have asked us to keep you posted.
Garmin Watch App
The podl Garmin app uses pairing and authentication credentials to fetch your podcast library, download selected audio files to your watch and synchronise listening progress and completion back to podl. These credentials allow the watch to access the part of your podl account needed for these features. The Garmin app does not request access to health, activity, location or ANT+ sensor data.
Podl Plus Purchases
Podl Plus purchases are made through Apple. To confirm your entitlement, podl sends a signed App Store transaction to the podl service for verification. Apple processes the purchase and payment; podl does not receive or store your payment-card information.
Third-Party Content
Podcast titles, descriptions, artwork and audio files may come from podcast publishers, podcast directories and their hosting providers. Podcast audio is downloaded from the publisher or its hosting provider. Their own privacy practices may apply when content is requested from their services.
Service Providers and Sharing
We do not sell your personal information. We share information only where needed to operate podl, provide its features, comply with law or protect the service. This can include Apple and Garmin as app, device, purchase-verification and platform providers; Resend for email delivery; podcast publishers and hosting providers when content is requested; and the providers used to host and operate the podl app, website, databases and backend services. These providers process information for the relevant service they supply.
Retention and Deletion
podl keeps account and synchronised data while your account is active or as needed to provide the service. You can delete your account from the podl app. Deleting your account removes linked devices, notification tokens and synchronised records associated with that account from the active service, subject to limited retention in backups or where required for security, fraud prevention or legal obligations. You can unsubscribe from product updates at any time using our unsubscribe form or ask us to remove your email address.
Beta testing applications
If you apply to test podl, we collect the contact, device and listening information you submit so we can assess compatibility, select testers and contact you about that testing round. Applications are delivered to feedback@podl.uk and stored securely with the website data. We do not use beta applications for unrelated marketing, and you can ask us to delete yours at any time.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information. No internet service can be guaranteed to be completely secure.
